Summer Alcove

Austin, TX 2021

Terraces are arranged on a steep hillside to form new outdoor living spaces: a large pool, a space for gathering around a fire, a garden terrace, and a play field. All of these are anchored around a new pool house that attaches to the existing residence.

A narrow terrace planted with fruit trees gives a shaded place to sit, and retains a steeply sloped yard.

A series of “rain-gardens” planted with Muhly and Yaupon mark a path from the front drive to the back-yard terraces.

A larger terrace cuts back into the hill, and creates enough space for a play-field. A new pool house overlooks this space.
